SHOULD YOU QUIT YOUR JOB NOW?
“You have to help me quit my job!”
Even though the video was off, I could tell from Bria’s voice that she was in tears. This strong woman couldn’t keep herself together anymore.
“You’re experiencing strong emotions now. That’s very natural,” I said, wanting to help her feel safe and accepted.
After all, Bria and I had only met once in an event. Knowing that I was a coach, she reached out the next day to see if I could help.
If there’s anything I’ve learned from my years of coaching, it’s that when the person is emotional, you need to give them the space to feel it.
So as Bria sobbed, I stayed silent, feeling my belly rise and fall with each breath. After a short while, I could sense that her wave of emotion had passed.
“Shall we take one long easy breath together?” I asked.
I heard her breathing with me. I paused, allowing Bria the time to settle, then I asked her to tell me what’s so difficult to her about her job.
After listening to her sharing, I said: “I can definitely help you, Bria.” I heard a sigh of relief on the other end. “But only if you promise me you won’t quit your job yet.”
3 months after that conversation, Bria waltzed in my office one evening holding a bottle of red wine: “Let’s celebrate!”
She had a giddy grin on her face, the very special grin with a dimple that I’d come to love after many hours supporting her. “Oh! Is it okay for us to drink a glass of wine in our coaching session?” She asked.
I laughed: “Of course. What are we celebrating?”
Bria said, her face brightened even more: “I just realized today that I have the perfect job!”
The most fascinating thing about this story is that the “perfect job” she referred to was the exact same job she had practically begged me to help her quit.
Bria’s circumstances hadn’t changed. But her experiences of the circumstances had changed 180 degrees. Why? Because she did.
Bria’s story teaches me once again, that life is truly created from the inside out.

【Origin Stories - Beth Lopez, Founder of Docosan AW#21】
Becoming a doctor was all I wanted to do growing up. It was the focal point of my identity for the majority of my upbringing. That all changed when I graduated from university and went to the peace corps.
I was sent to Cambodia, and ultimately fell in love with the place. It was so peaceful. The people were incredibly kind, but many of them lacked access to very basic necessities like healthcare--something I witnessed firsthand while living and working in a health center of this small, rural community.
It was supposed to be open 24/7 and serve as the main medical services hub for all the surrounding villages. In reality, it was only open for 2 hours a day. There were doctors on site, but many of them were just using the center as a way to get referrals to their private clinics. There wasn’t even running water, so many of the kids had gastrointestinal diseases.
The root cause of all this? Poor public health policy. Experiencing that firsthand made me realize that there was something I cared more about than becoming a doctor. After going back to school to get a masters in public health and working in a SG-based healthcare startup for a few years, I decided to set off on my own and start Docosan.
I took a huge risk and poured all of my savings into the company, accompanied by many sleepless nights in the early days. Things were tight. We even worked out of a closet-sized office space on top of a dog cafe at one point. We’ve since raised a round of fundraising and built up promising early traction, with many positive testimonials from patients and doctors.
We still face hurdles every single day but the opportunity is huge. We are changing the way people access healthcare for the better. I can say with 100% conviction that there's nothing I'd rather be doing.

Docosan (AW#21) is a digital platform that allows patients in Vietnam to seamlessly find, compare, and book healthcare practitioners. They’re currently working with 550 doctors, with over 75,000 patients having now used their platform to discover and book appointments. For other startups targeting AI/Blockchain/NFT/SEA, applications for AW#23 are now open: https://bit.ly/3fE0cC6

Among my clients, there are many small to medium enterprise business owners. Although most of them have the facial signs of being a boss, more often than not, on their faces, regardless of their age group, I can see that they have been through the vicissitudes of life.
It is never easy to do business and the pandemic last year had crippled many industries. I produced this video, to do my bit to help all bosses out there.
When a company is doing well, from the boss at the top to the employee at the lowest level, everybody gets to bring money home and put food on the table. When there is still work to do, there will be a comforting sense of security in every one.
It had been 3 months since I uploaded any video on Youtube. Are you still here? ? This video should have been up in the first few days of Chinese New Year, but I was so busy that days just flew by.
So I put hope that perhaps this could be uploaded on Yuan Xiao. However there were still a few rounds of amendments. My video editor just sent me the video at 2am earlier, so here it is! On the 16th day of the first Lunar month at 3am+, my first video for 2021! Yes, I am that Youtuber who uploads at ungodly hours~
There is a portion of information in the video related to CNY, but most information inside can definitely bear the test of the time, and most certainly useful for the bosses all year round!
If this video has poor views, I will put this up again next year before Chinese New Year to push up the viewership! ?

out of office hours 在 Dwayne Foong Youtube 的精選貼文
Hello! I hope all of you are well and healthy.
In this episode, I share my experience in keeping productivity in check while working from home. I have decided to work full time on my YouTube channel since 2020, therefore I am working home editing videos. Only occasionally I need to get out to do some filming.
Given the current covid 19 situation, I am guessing almost everyone are required to stay at home and quarantine themselves. There is no exception in Malaysia as well; we are in more than 14 days of movement control order (stay at home, quarantine).
Many of us who are lucky enough to keep their jobs work from home; while freelance creatives have most if not all of their bookings postponed or cancelled.
Regardless of the situation, in my opinion working from home requires more discipline than in an office space. Distractions, such as phone notifications, TV, food, and whatnot, are all within reach. I shared how I keep my distractions in check.
I also share how I schedule my day in time blocks. Using this method allows me to get a larger perspective on my productivity schedule. Minus the daily necessities such as food, sleep, exercise, I have about 6-8 hours a day of actual working time. Given my ambition to do more, e.g. managing an e-commerce business, produce 2-3 YouTube videos weekly, managing a microstock business, and etc I find that 6-8 hours a day is not adequate. Therefore, minimising distractions and stay focused in these time blocks is very important.
I also share my experience in working from home with a full working desk and chair set up instead of working on a couch or bed.
